Getting ready for Christmas
One of the most snowsure ski resorts in the Italian Alps, Livigno is a small tourist village close to the Swiss border famous for its duty-free shopping facilities. This renowned ski and snowboard paradise offers a long winter season, lasting from the end of November to the end of April, when skiers of all levels can enjoy over 110 km of well organized ski slopes located on both sides of this wide and sunny valley. With its characteristic wooden houses, the centre of Livigno features a beautiful pedestrian zone fitted with an impressive variety of duty-free shops selling all types of goods.
By the time the busy Christmas and New Year period arrives, Livigno usually is already in full swing with almost 100% of the ski runs operating at their best and all the tourist accommodations, hotels and lodges almost sold out. As Christmas approaches, Livigno shows off a multitude of festive decorations, taking on a magical atmosphere. This summer, the local municipality decided to provide the main square and the city hall with a brand new illumination, which could further enhance the holiday spirit through a bright colour changing LED lighting system and a fixed image projection display.
According to a scheme conceived by GRIVEN’s lighting designer Raffaele Vincelli upon the municipality briefing, a series of PARADE S-RGBW-60 with medium optics were installed head down on the roof borders of the city hall building to deliver a grazing light effect to the entire façade. These modular and adjustable super flux, high luminance bars featuring 60 RGBW LEDs provide superb output with real uniform colour coverage even on close-up installations owing to their optics specifically designed for true wall washing or grazing effects. A warm white colour configuration is preferred by the municipality for the everyday lighting, while a colour changing dynamic set up will be chosen for special occasions or festivities. Some units of POWERSHINE MK2 S in RGBW colour configuration with extra wide optics, installed on top of the building, deliver an almost daylight illumination to the city main square, specifically required for festive occasions, evening local markets or night entertainment shows to be run during the year.
Moreover, to meet the specifications of the local municipality, one GoboLED 80D was installed on the top roof of a side building in order to project changing images on the square pavement. The IP65 rated GoboLED 80 D projects a bright and accurate rendition of any graphic design or logo in outdoor and indoor locations with the help of a dichroic or metal gobo providing maximum design creativity, dynamism and flexibility. The final finetuning and programming of the entire system were developed on site by our lighting designer Alessandro Pederzani, who assured a seamless functioning of all the installed projectors.
Now, it’s really beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Livigno!
