M-Net upgrades ‘The Magic’ with Prosound –T&A Lighting

Prosound-T&A Lighting recently went to ‘where The Magic Lives,’ which was none other than M-Net Broadcast Services to upgrade their Lighting Control system in their main production studio.

Studio 1, became the second High Definition studio in Africa, after its recent technology upgrade. For the lighting component of this upgrade, Prosound / T&A Lighting supplied an ETC ION 2048 Channel Console, complete with 2 flat screen DVI monitors and a 40 channel fader wing with a 4 port Ethernet Dmx Bridge.

According to the technical specifications list put out by MNET, the console required, had to have the ability to control generic and moving lights, be easy to learn and quick to set up. Said Angus Clarke: Head of Lighting Design at MNET-BCS: “Having had past experience of the ETC range of consoles, the new generation ETC Ion Console was the obvious product of choice owing to its ease of use, reliability, track record and good pricing”. Having equipment installed in Botswana TV, SABC, e-TV and MNET, it’s worthy to note that ETC is fast becoming The Lighting Product of choice for television studio’s throughout Southern Africa.

Extensive training on the Ion Console was done by Dave Whitehouse at the M-Net studios, giving the staff the know-how to operate the console. All major productions at MNET have been controlled by the ION Console since February this year. When it came to the brand new Studio 7, which is also known as the VUZU Youth Channel Studio, Prosound supplied an ETC Smart Fade ML Console, a Zero 88, 24way Chilli Dimmer Pack, 8x 650w Quartzcolor Fresnels, together with an Enttec playback and remote unit.

Studio 7 is very unique in that the lighting plots are built with the ETC Smart Fade ML Console and streamed and recorded by the Enttec playback unit. This therefore means that the studio operator only uses the playback remote for playback of scenes and allows the Smart Fade ML to be used elsewhere in the M-Net studios when necessary. No other TV Studio in South Africa is able to boast this type of technology and system integration.

All the MNET Supersport studio’s lighting is controlled by 12/24 ETC Smartfade consoles. A 24/96 way Smartfade console was also supplied as a back up to the ETC Express and Expression consoles in use in the other studios.
