Nelspruit on the map for 2010

Mbombela is one of the ten stadiums to cater and host the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ tournament. In successful deliverance of the splendour, the sound design, supply and installation contract was awarded to Prosound who are the leading Pro-Audio / Lighting company in South Africa specialising in the entire turnkey project.

Rising up just a few metres away from the west of Nelspruit, Mbombela Stadium takes its name from the local municipality and translated means ‘many people together’ in siSwati…pretty fitting for a stadium that will seat approximately 46 000. The newest ‘baby’ to Nelspruit has a rounded, rectangular form which ensures that all spectators have a good view of the action on the field.

The loudspeaker system for the main arena consists of 24x Electro-Voice FRX 660PI and 24x Electro-Voice ZX 5 loudspeakers, suspended by Prosound custom loudspeaker brackets. A total of 210 RCF DM41 loudspeakers are used as under-balcony fills. Crest CKI 1600 power amplifiers with Crest Cobranet cards are used to power the loudspeakers. The voice evacuation systems consist of RCF PL60 ceiling mount loudspeakers, together with RCF paging horns all powered by Crest CKI 800 amplifiers. Media Matrix Nion processors are again used for system processing and fault monitoring. All amplifiers for the system were supplied with CobraNet cards, meaning that all the audio from the control room is distributed via fibre cable through network switchers to the 2 amplifier rooms - situated on the south-east and north-west corners of the stadium - thus minimising cable runs to the speakers thus minimising power losses.

“The Prosound system at Mbombela Stadium was turned on last weekend and it is fantastic – people who regularly spend their Saturdays in stadia (Sharks and Bulls fans!) who have heard this system cannot believe the clarity of the sound, especially when playing music,” states Neil Fourie from Platinum Sports Consulting.
