Raising the roof for Soccer City Stadium
Suspended in the grandstand roof void above the ‘'membrane"' Prosound is already fitting the sophisticated Electro Voice loudspeakers 55-60 metres above the pitch.
There are 128 Phoenix loudspeakers providing 325 000 watts and an average spl of 105db.
The speakers are colour co-ordinated to match the roof and are being installed above the membrane, which has a limited load bearing of 40kg per m² therefore great care is taken as one is not allowed to walk directly on the membrane.
A safety roadway taupalin and shutter ply has been installed for the use of movement on the membrane; however goods are unable to be carried on it.
With this in mind a temporary truss structure has been erected for goods to slide across without adding pressure onto the membrane.
The 6 man crew are all on safety harnesses and hanging cables are preassembled to ensure that the clusters hang correctly first time.
The system meets world class standards and has been designed entirely in-house by Prosound in Johannesburg.
A proud effort for the stadium that will host the opening and closing World Cup Soccer 2010 matches
