Star Sound use Electro-Voice Phoenix loudspeakers
Star Sound AV is a Bloemfontein based company that specializes in providing professional services to all Audio Visual and Multimedia needs for formal presentations, congresses and conferences, and various other functions, across South Africa.
Celebrating over 25 years in the industry, it all started for Star Sound in 1983 with a plan to launch a small sound system rental company. Today, Star Sound offers a full spectrum of services including: Events Productions, Outdoor Sound Systems, AV Rentals, Theatre Sound and Multi Media Productions. As one of the most fully equipped rental and production facilities in the industry, their knowledgeable staff is able to provide reliable solutions for all needs.
When Electro-Voice launched the new Phoenix loudspeaker range, a demo was arranged for Start Sound. The new Electro-Voice Phoenix encompasses the original “Manifold Technology” compression driver design, developed in the 80’s and made famous with the renowned MT-loudspeaker range. The Phoenix features the latest DVX and ND loudspeaker driver technology, with compact and stackable cabinets. As a result these high-power units are the only type of cabinet on the market with these offerings.
After the demo Star Sound decided to purchase the Electro-Voice Phoenix loudspeaker system. Apart from being great sounding, their decision was also based on the professional service provided by Prosound, and also being proud Electro-Voice users. This left Star Sound in no doubt to invest in EV once again.
The system was used for the Springbok/Wales test-match at Bloemfontein stadium in June 2008, for performances by various artists. This comment from Star Sound sums it all up:
“Lee, I am speechless about the system. It is absolutely unbelievable that 12" full range cabinets can give such amount of coverage and SPL. The drivers was quite stiff when we started it up at first, but one could hear the difference during the evening after about 4 hours of use. The LOWS warmed up a lot after a bit of use. What amazed me the most is the fact that not a single spectator complained about the sound, not even that it is too loud! The headroom is mind-boggling. We did 6 different acts (2 and 3 piece live bands) during the day, and not a single amp clipped. Vocals cut throug every thing in the mix, and you got total piece of mind with your mix. The rig loves an electric quitar!”
The system comprises of 6 x Electro-Voice Phoenix PX2122 mid/high cabinets (utilizing dual 12” drivers) and 6 x Phoenix PX2181 dual 18” subs, powered by 6 x Electro-Voice CP4000 power amplifiers, and two Electro-Voice DX38 digital loudspeaker processors.
