Prosound - Introduction

Prosound (Pty) Ltd was established in 1973 by Terry Acres, providing hardware and services for live concerts, theatre and music shows. Throughout the 70's, Prosound was the leading sound rental company doing the largest proportion of the top touring shows both local and international, sports events and embryonic outside broadcast television productions. By the late 70's the need arose to develop workshops for the manufacture of international-standard loudspeaker cabinetry and loudspeaker componentry. Prosound embarked on a policy of sourcing well-made, conservatively engineered products and then adapting them to suit the African operational and environmental standards and conditions.

The 80's was a decade of expansion for the company when it moved into a 4- floor building in downtown Johannesburg. A branch was established in Durban in 1984 as a one-man operation. This branch has grown dramatically and now occupies a floor space of 500m² and employs 4 full-time people. Through the 80's, the company became the premier contractor for sound and communication systems in Southern Africa. A close relationship with consultants was developed and is still maintained through an attitude of care for specification, budgets and timeous completion of works. Skills developed led to the majority of works now being "design / build" or turnkey.

Throughout the 90's, Prosound has consolidated its growth and professionalism. Systems Engineering and Installations is a separate entity with skills, unique and extensive, in the design and engineering of sound systems. Sales and distribution is a central department of trained consultants. Broadcast and Studio Services exists with the know-how to service this specific market. The administration department of the company? is a professional core developing the business for an ISO 9000 rating.

T&A Lighting was established in 1997 as the lighting division of Prosound, and has become a force to be reckoned with in the lighting industry.

Prosound is currently the leading Pro-Audio / Lighting "Design, Supply and Installation" company in sub Sahara Africa.
